bathroom makeover

okay. i did it again. i relapsed into the life of a not-blogging-blogger. i think that's common, right? anyway, i realized (for the millionth time!) that i don't take enough pictures and so most of my posts become ranting tangents without any fun photos. total bummer.

i'm trying to become a better blogger.

a few weeks back i painted our bathroom. cabinets, walls, doors, trims, everything. it took me all week but i think it looks a million times better. this time i was sure to get 'before' pics. of course, i had already cleared and prepped everything by the time i remembered so sorry the 'befores' look so trashy. fortunately it just helps to make the 'afters' that much better!

i repainted the walls from the gross yellowy-green to a slightly blue white color. i wanted the room to be really clean feeling and so a white wall seemed like the only choice! i painted the trims all to super white so you could see a contrast between the wall color and trim. the cabinet and shelf were my favorite projects. i chose to paint them chartreuse, one of my all-time favorite colors, so that the room would have a punch. i hope to add more to it but for now i think just the clean look and bright, inviting color-scheme is a huge improvement!

ps- my collages stink. HALP!

pillow talk.

since i've been living on my own i've discovered that i am, despite all my family might say contrary, a light sleeper. one time, my roommate, rosie, left her cell phone in our living room while all of us roommates took a sunday afternoon nap. my room was the furthest room from the living room but when her alarm went off i was the only one to get up in aggravation at the persistent ringing. rosie also woke me up once by repeatedly yelling, "Eff. Eff. EFF!" in her sleep. it was a weird night.

Because this is how Trevor and I look whilst canoodling in bed.
Also because I love Rock Hudson.

i've learned since being married that while trevor is also a light sleeper we have completely different sleeping habits. for example, trevor falls asleep on average in less than a five minutes. most nights i am too busy thinking to sleep. about dinner for the next day. about school. about decorating. about family. about clothes. about movies. about how in the heck do you turn on a radiator?! about basically my entire life. trevor "wakes up" to almost all of my movements in bed. (especially when i put my icicle toes on his warm feet.) i say that he "wakes up" because he is actually never completely, coherently awake. he just mumbles some strangled remark about being worried about me and grabs me reassuringly. which, is actually quite sweet. i don't hate it at all.

last night i woke both of us up with a random coughing fit. does that ever happen to anyone but me? it's the worst. i feel like i'll never stop coughing and thus, never sleep again. trevor shoots up off his pillow and begins his stream of mumbled concerns. i, on the other hand, am completely awake. i inform him i'm fine and stumble into the kitchen for water. when i get back to bed trevor is attempting some kind of joke about my coughing spell. i'm actually not even sure if he realizes i wasn't in bed, let alone the bedroom. i just decide to shut that down and comfort him back to a soundless sleep.

i've discussed these incidents with trevor previously and he literally has no idea what i'm talking about. trevor never remembers the time he grabbed me, mid-sleep, and informed me, "i'm right here. you're okay. don't you know i'm here?" he doesn't even remember checking the entire house for rapists i thought must be lurking in our creepy basement! he occasionally has entire conversations with me without any recollection. in contrast, i can wake up to trevor asking me where his wallet is and immediately answer his question without the skip of a beat or get out of bed and find the wallet myself.

i can't decide which one of us is the crazy one.

things i've learned this past month

yesterday, trevor and i celebrated our one month-iversary! he brought me home flowers and my favorite cinnamon rolls. i cleaned out the spare bedroom? to be fair, he had mentioned it should be our chore for the week. to be even more fair, there was a lot to clean out. onward! married life is awesome. you get to hang out with your best friend nearly 24/7, use wedding gift cards to buy kitty t-shirts, have sexy time, watch TV every night, and you get to squeeze your husband's butt in public. (okay, you don't actually get to but you can and people can't judge you because you're married to that butt!) it's amazing.

here is a list of things i've learned in the past month of being married:

communication is super important.

boys fart a lot.

trevor only gets mad at inanimate objects. i.e.- faulty sprinkler systems, screwdrivers, and the like.

there are snails in utah? and they like to eat flowers and drink beer. a lot.

husbands want dinner every night. like, a real home-made meal because apparently mcdonald's doesn't count.

people really like my new last name. but for real, more than bentley?

you can live an entire day looking forward to one single moment.

the show, derek, on netflix is really good. surprisingly emotional.

you can make a lot of meals with chicken and brown rice.

LDS married student wards have babies. don't babies = family ward?

skyler, is thee worst.

i really love my husband.

applying for pell grants is the pits.

i'm really bad at doing homework. although, admittedly, i'm pretty sure i already knew that.

eternity with trevor is gonna be fun.

collegiate struggles

i'm the world's worst college student. i never want to go to class and hardly ever force myself to. (i'm very lenient when it comes to myself and matters i don't want to deal with. exactly why our spare bedroom currently looks like the inside of one of those storage units on storage wars. bleh. )

today, i woke up earlier than my alarm because i felt i'd slept enough. whaaa? i don't really recognize this person that goes to bed latest at 10:30 pm. i blame trevor's work schedule! homeboy has to be at work at SIX A.M. it's ruined my partying-college-lifestyle. this is beside the point. i woke up, got all ready for school, then realized i might have homework that's due. remarkably, i did have homework due! not only homework but a paper.

college: 6,421 jenny: -32

so instead of writing the paper i decided to blog because that's what every sane person would do, right? also, we're out of bread so i can't even make trevor a sandwich for school like i promised i would. hashtag struggling.

back at it, yo.

okay folks.

i started a new blog, again. i know, i know, i know. i've convinced myself that the reason i never fully committed to blogging in the first place was because i never enjoyed my blog aesthetically and hence all my posts seemed underwhelming to me. i would post and think, "bleh. i guess that'll do."

my dreamy husband, trevor j. free, has been trying to convince me to blog again basically since we started dating. i finally explained to him my underwhelmed-ness about the look of my blog and he was convinced i could make one pretty all by my technology-stupid self. said by the man who taught himself how to play drums AND guitar (saaaah-woon). so, i'm doing it. or trying at least. the things i have yet to figure out:

those twitter, pinterest, facebook follow tag things... many hours of wasted attempts though.

how the heck to do i get my photos and header to not be mounted? like this:

but, like, imagine that GQ man jamming out on drums.
panty melter.

how do i put those side links that link to my about page? and like, LDS.org?

also, i think one of those instagram photo feeds would be nice.

but isn't my header so hip? and i figured out how to use cute fonts! so feel free to shower me with design compliments and ADVICE. seriously, i'm struggling. hard.

HALP!
